Description

A beautiful set of antique Shaker style lathe-turned Maple High Slat Back Side Chairs with flat reed splint-woven seats.

Featuring four angular shaped slats and herringbone flat reed woven splint seats with tilted and tapered legs in the traditional Shaker style. Unusually elongated flame finials adorn skillfully turned double stretcher frames. A honey-colored hand-applied stain enhances the beauty of the turned tiger maple.

Possibly dating from the mid to late 1800s or early 1900s and most likely originating in the south. Based on the style of the finials and slats, it is possible that these were made by the Pleasant Hill, Shaker community in Kentucky or were strongly influenced by their work, though this is not confirmed. Age is approximated based on the style and workmanship. Lathe marks are present, and frames vary slightly in construction.
